Shelter Support Project

Under Hamro Samman Project, Shelter Support Program is funded by the Winrock International.

Hamro Samman is a five-year project with the goal to reduce the prevalence of Trafficking in persons (TIP) in Nepal by bringing together implementing partners and various stakeholders including Government agencies, civil society organizations and private sectors.

PNCC in partnership with Hamro Samman provide improved shelter services targeted at the survivors of trafficking in select districts, in coordination with the relevant government agency.

Many migrant workers who are rescued and brought back to home country can’t immediately join family. Generally, these migrant workers return empty handed and do know where to stay upon their arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (“TIA”) in Kathmandu. For such helpless returnee male migrant workers who do not have accommodation facility in Kathmandu, PNCC receives them directly from Tribhuvan International Airport and provides temporary shelter until they are able to return to their home town. PNCC also supports them financially for their immediate medical support and travel fair to their home town if needed.

Till end of 2019, PNCC provided shelter support to more than 581 returnee migrant workers.  In 2019, 122 people received the shelter support.

The support provided in PNCC shelter is free of cost and managed by core fund PNCC receives as an overhead cost from the implementation of different projects and also from the individual donations. And for the operation of shelter, various members of the management team voluntarily stay overnight at times, and provide essential services such as receiving returnees from airport, managing accommodation, foods, and other supports including immediate medical support.
